Downton Abbey fans: dit nieuws maakt jullie dag

In september zakten er duizenden Downton Abbey fans af richting cinemazalen voor de allereerste film van de dramareeks. Het werd zo’n overweldigend succes dat de producer nu wel héél erg goed nieuws heeft.

Gigantisch succes

In amper een maand tijd bracht de film zo’n 130 miljoen euro in het laatje. Of er dus een vervolg komt? Waarschijnlijk wel! Producer Gareth Neame zei aan The Hollywood Reporter: “We’re working on what the story is, and when we might be able to make it. But it’s the same as the first time around: we have to try to get everyone back together again. And that was very challenging.”

In oktober berichtte The Sun‘s Bizarre TV column ook al dat een insider het volgende had gezegd: “Downton’s popularity as a film has been phenomenal. It took 60 million in America alone and has been a roaring success. Julian [Fellowes, de maker van de serie] and the team are over the moon with how it played out. No one expected it would be this big. The commercial viability of a second film is now a dead cert, so Julian has been told to start putting pen to paper on the follow-up.”

“Ik zeg nooit nooit”

Een nieuwe film is dus nog niet officieel bevestigd, maar de kans is wel héél erg groot. Toen Julian Fellowes in de Good Morning Britain werd gevraagd naar een vervolg zei hij: “I never say never anymore. I’m too old for that. Because the moment you say never you immediately swallow it a month later,” zei hij, al zittend naast Elizabeth McGovern die Lady Cora Crawley speelt. “And the fact is I don’t know. I think it rather depends as to how the picture is received and we will all have a think about whether we want to go there again.”

Geen twijfel over dat de film een schot in de roos was, Julian. Gewoon doen dus (fingers crossed)!
